Overview

The Master of Art in Teaching at Georgia Southern University is designed for students who do not currently hold teacher certification. It provides credit hours for previously attempted credits in the area of certification. Students will be eligible to pursue one of six concentrations: Secondary Education, Middle Grades Education, Special Education, P-12 Education, Early Childhood Education, and Health and Physical Education. Most concentrations are offered fully online.

48. California University of Pennsylvania

Overview

California University of Pennsylvania enables students to enter the workforce with the knowledge, character, and experiences necessary to be successful lifelong teachers. Students will work closely with the career services office to attend job shadowing opportunities, on-campus recruitment events, and to develop crucial soft skills.

Program Features

This program offers secondary certification in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Communications, Earth Space Science, English, Physics, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Spanish. It is designed for students with a background in one of these areas, or for students looking to make a career change into secondary teaching. Forty eight credit hours are required. Required coursework includes:

Notables

The field experience of this program adhere to the high school schedule, allowing future teachers the opportunity to authentically interact with diverse groups of students. Sixteen hours of field experience will also occur in each semester that courses are being taken. These hours can be taken consecutively, or spaced out. The university does not allow students to complete fieldwork in the community where they currently live, so as to expand their horizons and experiences in working with students.

 

49. Mississippi State University

Overview

Mississippi State University enables students to start a new, exciting career in teaching through its Master of Arts in Teaching--Secondary program. This is offered exclusively online, and allows students to pursue initial teacher licensure. A unique feature of this program is that the admissions requirement of the Praxis Core is waived if applicants scored at least a 21 on the ACT.

Overview

The Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of West Georgia allows students to add a Georgia Educator Certificate to an existing undergraduate degree. It is delivered almost exclusively online, with additional field experiences in public schools. Students will graduate with a master’s degree with teaching certification in grades 6-12. It is ideal for career changers, provisionally-certified teachers, and recent college graduates.
